Background

The City of Millersburg is planning for an all new park in the northern section of Millersburg, specifically just off Millersburg Drive.  The Concept has been fully approved.  The next step is construction documents and construction.  The City is seeking finding for the ultimate construction, at this time there is no time;ine for construction.

The park is going to be located on Millersrsbug Dr., just east of Sedona Road.  The site is one with a recent tumultuous history.  A project was approved for the site that would have brought manufactured homes to the property.   However, our Parks Master Plan had identified that a new park was needed in the northern part of the City, within walking distance for a large portion of the City.  The short version of the story is that the City ended up buying the property and is now planning the new park.

The Parks Master Plan had done some work through public outreach efforts to identify what features people would like to see in the park site.  Using that as a starting point, the City is planning to do additional outreach to those that boarder the property and to those that live in the northern part of the City, because they would be the most frequent users of the park.  The process will also involve the Parks Commission as the design of the park unfolds.  Lastly, it should be mentioned that the name of the park is a placeholder.  The Parks Commission and City Council will address the name of the park sometime before its built.

The Survey

A survey was sent to the neighborhoods that surround the park during the concept planning stage in 2023, asking what kind of features and amenities people would like to see in the park.  The results of that survey were the backbone of the conceptual design, which has now been approved.

Parks and Planning Commission meetings

The Parks Commission held two meetings to discuss the park.  The first meeting was to discuss what basic concepts the Commission wanted to see in the park, and to review the results from the survey.  The second meeting was to go through two conceptual drafts of the park design.  These conceptual designs (included below) reflected all  public comments received in the survey, the needs of the Parks Master Plan, the State outline for park designs (SCORP), and previous direction from the Parks Commission.  The consultants took the direction provided by the Parks Commission provided at the November 30th meeting and created a single preferred alternative.  The Planning Commission subsequently approved the design on January 2, 2024.  More information on the Planning Commission public hearing can be found here.
