Parks Status Update

We would like to thank our residents for your patience as the City’s contractor, R&R Tree Service, has completed work removing the overhead hazards in Millersburg Park which presented risks to users in the park including the walking path and playground areas.  With the removal of the overhead hazards, Millersburg Park has been reopened.  Please observe and stay out of the areas where barrier tape remains in place in the northeast section of the park.  R&R Tree Service will be returning on Saturday or Monday to complete removal of broken branches.  There will also be additional work in the park next week to finish clean up.

Acorn Park remains closed due to broken limbs in the tops of the oak trees, which could potentially fall and strike users.  R&R Tree Service will be bringing high lift equipment into the park to remove the hazards, but until that work can be completed the park will remain closed. Please continue to visit this page for updates on the status of Acorn Park.

Millersburg and Acorn Park’s Storm Damage Status

City staff met with an arborist with R&R Tree Service on 2/16/2021 to evaluate damage to trees at Millersburg and Acorn Parks.  Our hope was to isolate the damaged trees and reopen the remainder of Millersburg Park.  Unfortunately, a number of trees have been identified with damage, which could result in additional failures, and continue to present a safety hazard to park users.  Therefore, reopening the parks is not feasible until these hazards are addressed.  In the coming days, R&R Tree Service will be working to address hazardous trees along our public roads and sidewalks.  Once this work is completed, they will begin working first in Millersburg Park, then Acorn Park.  The work may continue into Saturday, and potentially the following week, if necessary.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation in observing the park closures.  We recognize the importance of our parks to our citizens and our goal is to reopen them as soon as safely possible.

Millersburg City Parks are closed until further notice due to hazardous conditions. City staff have been working since the early a.m. hours this Saturday to clear downed branches and trees from City streets. Once that is done, staff will work to ensure there are safe areas in the parks. Until then, please stay out of City parks for your own safety and that of your family and pets.

This Saturday, as you are out and about, please be aware of the danger of falling ice from power lines and trees. There may also be risk from trees damaged by ice so more may fall, including branches. Thanks!
